Dear colleagues,
The Burma Activism Survey (English version) is now ready! Click here to take the survey: https://harvard.psr.keysurvey.com/survey/267995/1514/. If you would like to take the survey in Burmese language, we apologize for the delay, but are still getting some translation issues worked through. We will be sending out that link soon as well.

As a quick reminder: the purpose of the research is to understand the goals, values, and desires of transnational Burma activists (both Burmese and non-Burmese), and in so doing understand more about social movements both in the context of Burma and broadly. The survey is completely anonymous; you will not be required to provide your name or your email address. The survey will take 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the reflection time you need. To protect your privacy and to allow you to return to the survey if you don't complete it in one sitting (or if you lose your internet connection!), you will create a log-in and password. Please do not forget your log-in and password! Finally, please skip any questions you do not want to answer. You can forward the link to others who might be interested.

Thanks so much for your time. Any questions or problems, please contact me immediately at prasse@post.harvard.edu.

Dear Toronto Burma Roundtable,
My name is Elliott Prasse-Freeman and I'm a researcher at Harvard Kennedy School's Carr Center for Human Rights. I am writing to share a new research project on the Burma activist movement and seek your participation.

The research survey - which will be online, fully anonymous, voluntary, and confidential - will take between 30 and 60 minutes. The purpose of the research is to understand the goals, values, and desires of transnational Burma activists. We are hoping that the research can assist the movement in taking stock of its different strategies, and even help identify political opportunities, new approaches, and/or new recruitment methods. Research subjects will have a chance, in the survey itself, to reflect on values and goals, which perhaps is salutary in itself. We are using a broad definition of ‘activist’ for this study: those who consider themselves, are considered, or, importantly, at one point considered themselves Burma activists, or if not activists per se, those who are otherwise involved in Burma issues and affairs.

Some of you may have received this note from me in another email, and I apologize for the duplication. However, as we are seeking a broad sample to capture as many viewpoints as possible, I hope you can forgive the desire to err on the side of coverage. With that in mind:

 1. Would you participate in the survey when it is finalized (it is still being developed and approved, and should be ready within the month)?
 2. Can you help our team collect contacts of people involved in Burma so we can develop a representative sample for the survey?

I will send on a note to outline the survey goals and methods in more detail if you reply. We welcome all questions and feedback. Thanks again and regards,
Elliott
